Cctv news(News Network): The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal is the longest man-made canal in the world. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the provinces along the Grand Canal have made overall efforts to promote the protection, inheritance and utilization, and the ancient canal has given new vitality in the new era.
The Grand Canal starts from Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province in the south, passes through Jiangsu, Shandong, Hebei and Tianjin in the north, and finally reaches Tongzhou, Beijing, with a total length of more than 1,700 kilometers.
More than 80 enterprises, including pesticide plant and cement plant, once gathered in the Sanwan section of the Canal in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province. Since 2014, local projects such as factory relocation, river dredging and revetment reconstruction have been started. Now, Sanwan has become a scenic wetland park. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, a series of eco-environmental protection measures have been fully implemented along the canal. This year, with the completion of water supply, the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal was completed for the first time in a hundred years.
The Grand Canal not only nourishes the cities and people on both sides of the strait, but is also known as a "flowing culture". In 2014, the Grand Canal was included in the World Heritage List. Relying on rich cultural relics, the construction of the Grand Canal National Cultural Park has been accelerated, and the Grand Canal Cultural Belt has been accelerated.
The Grand Canal has also injected strong momentum into the development of cities along the route. In Tongzhou, Beijing, the Canal Business District based on good ecological construction has begun to take shape, attracting a number of industries such as financial technology innovation and high-end business services to settle in the city sub-center. In Dezhou, Shandong Province, the Grand Canal passes through the city, and Wenchuang Industrial Park and Ecological Corridor are laid out on both sides. In Jiangsu, four green modern shipping demonstration zones have been built. In Hebei Province, the central section of the Grand Canal in Cangzhou recently realized tourist navigation, and it has become a new holiday choice for people to visit the Grand Canal by boat.
Nowadays, the splendid cultural belt, green ecological belt and colorful tourism belt of the Grand Canal are being built at an accelerated pace, and the "Millennium Canal" is blooming brilliantly in the new era.
